Butter, corn oil and fibrinolysis in rats.

چکیده
CONSIDERABLE evidence has accumulated suggesting that 2 factors are involved in coronary thrombosis in man: (1) a local factor (usually atherosclerosis) ; and (2) a hematologic factor (procoagulative, antifibrinolytic, or both)." Data obtained from this and other laboratories during the past several years indicate that the ingestion of certain fatty substances might be involved in both the local and hematologic factors. We have recently reported a dietary method for the production of coronary thrombosis and myocardial infarction in rats. ' 5 In those experimental animals, the degree of arteriosclerosis (local factor) has been surprisingly minimal at even the sites of thrombosis and has led us to believe that the diet was affecting principally the hematologic factor. Our attention has been directed toward the development of methods for the study of fibrinolysis. A method was needed that was as nearly objective as possible, reproducible, and capable of comparisons of rats on thrombogenic diets with those on nonthrombogenic diets. For objectivity we chose to use an electronic device called a Thrombelastograph,* which provides a permanent, measurable record of at least certain aspects of blood clotting and clotlysis.' 8 For reprodueibility and comparability, we have utilized several purified or semipurified additives that permit clotting and lysis of plasma from rats at will. Thus standard conditions can be created under which clotting and lysis times and clot-firmness of normal plasma can be measured with

Reversible alterations in fatty acid composition of heart muscle membrane phospholipids induced by epinephrine in rats fed different fats.
The effect of epinephrine on the fatty acid composition of heart muscle phospholipids was examined in rats fed diets containing 10% by weight of butter, corn oil, or cod liver oil. Repeated administration of epinephrine caused elevation of docosahexaenoic acid in phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine and a corresponding decrease in linoleic acid content. Arachidonic acid was increase...
متن کاملHypercoagulability Induced by Hyperlipemia in Rat, Rabbit and Man
Feeding a butter-rich diet to rats induced a "hypercoagulable state," since multiple large thrombi were observed in response to injection of S. typhosa endotoxin but the same stimulus was ineffective in rats fed a corn oil-rich diet or laboratory chow. In vitro hypercoagulability was noted in blood from the butter-fed rats, the recalcification plasma clotting time (PCT) being reduced by 34 to 4...
متن کاملThe Effect of Butter Oil on Avoidance Memory in Normal and Diabetic Rats
Objective(s) Since diabetes mellitus is accompanied by cognitive impairment in diabetic patient and animal models and since lipids play important roles in neuronal membrane composition, structure and function; we intended to evaluate the effect of dietary butter oil on passive avoidance memory of streptoztosin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats in this study. Materials and Methods Thirty six adult ...

متن کاملEffects of Sesame Butter (Ardeh) versus Sesame Oil on Metabolic and Oxidative Stress Markers in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats
Background: Diabetes is one of the most common metabolic disorders and is related to oxidative-stress-induced diseases. Given the role of dietary antioxidants in the control and prevention of diabetes, this study aimed to examine the effects of sesame butter versus sesame oil on the serum levels of glucose, lipid profile, and oxidative stress biomarkers in diabetic rats. Methods: Forty male albi...
